Have you been looking for an easy way to support your kids’ fine motor development?
Fine Motor ABC is your answer.
Written by a pediatric Occupational Therapist, this short picture book gets right to the heart of how to support fine motor skills children need for everyday activities such as playing, feeding, dressing, cutting, writing, and more. 3 Things You’ll Learn in Fine Motor ABC
1. Targeted Activities to Strengthen Fine Motor Skills: Each letter of the alphabet is tied to a different developmental activity. The activities included in Fine Motor ABC cover developmental areas such as gross motor, fine motor, and visual motor skills. As a fellow pediatric OT, I wholeheartedly endorse each and every activity in this book!
2. Clear Instructions for How to Execute and/or Adapt the Activity: Instructions are included at the top of each image and are provided in rhyming couplet form. This makes it accessible to both children as well as any adults who may be supporting them.
3. Educational Information to Support Parents and Teachers: At the bottom of each page, a few sentences explain to grown-ups just why each activity is so important. This is, of course, my favorite part! I absolutely LOVE that we as Occupational Therapists are equipped to share (often little-known) developmental information with parents and educators. It equips adults with specialized knowledge and empowers them to make a difference in a child’s life. And that’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it?!
This would be a great resource to keep in your daycare, preschool, or Kindergarten classroom. And if you’re an OT, it would also be a good tool to incorporate into a teacher in-service or when putting together home practice programs for children.
